Investing in your skin

Let’s be honest, when it comes to the beauty industry there are so many products and facials out there, it can become a bit of a minefield.

Let’s be honest, when it comes to the beauty industry there are so many products and facials out there, it can become a bit of a minefield.

A key part to choosing a facial is what you want to get out of it. Whether it’s relaxing, a quick fix or for real long term results.
If you want relaxing then a hands on spa facial is going to be the best facial for you to unwind, feel relaxed and pampered. Some facials will leave you feeling and looking better but they will have no real long term results. Some facials use advanced technology that are a medical platform that are clinically proven to show results. But with results come commitment, there is no ‘quick fix’ and it takes time and regular facials to start seeing a big difference in your skin. I am a big believer in these type of facials and always tailor make them to the individual clients skin type, let’s be honest there is no point having a ‘one size fits all’ facial that may not do anything for you skin. That’s why tailoring a facial to suit the skin and what the client wants to get out of it is so important. The skin can also change with environmental factors, stress, diet, change etc so it’s really important to be adapting the facial each and every time this happens.

Then there is skincare…
There are three category’s in the skincare world. These are cosmetic which are normally found in shops and bought over the counter. Cosmeceuticals normally found in spas and salons. And then Medical grade which can be found from a medical practitioner, skin clinics and dermatologists.
A cosmetic product is applied and sits on the outer surface of the skin. It cannot pass through the dermal-epidermal joining, which is the area between the epidermis and dermis. However, it can maintain, protect, clean, add fragrance and change the appearance of any area of the skin surface that it is applied too.
Cosmeceutical products are able to penetrate the epidermis. The active principles are able to pass through the epidermis and act deep within the dermis where skin issues may occur.
Medical skincare uses evidence-based research and products with a high strength of actives and sophisticated delivery systems which penetrate the layers of skin.
This is a range of products that are prescription based only. Meaning you can’t buy over the counter or online but a professional will be able to prescribe for you and your individual skin needs. Why is this? medical skincare products use higher ‘active’ ingredients . Active ingredients are so important on your skin because these are the ingredients that are really going to make a difference and show results. If used incorrectly it can also do damage to your skin, this is why the products need to be prescribed by a trained professional only.

Using both medical grade skincare and advanced technology on a regular bases have huge positive results and your skin will thank you for it. I always say that prevention is better than cure so it’s never too early to start looking after your skin. Radio Frequency Facials are a prime example of this, a heat treatment that produces more collagen and elastin fibres in the skin.. so not only does it help with anti ageing but it is a preventive too.. what’s not to love!
Home care is also a key part so using the right products is so important. AlumierMD is a medical skincare range I use both on my clients and myself at home. It’s packed with active ingredients and they are continuously working with scientists and biochemists to create science proven skincare.
My two ‘must haves’ are the retinol and recovery balm , I couldn’t live without them now! I can discuss a length with my clients about their skin and which products would benefit them the most.
“Your face is going to represent you everyday for the rest of your life” - a great quote and one I totally agree is worth investing in!
